I am a fourth year Journalism student with a concentration in Public Relations at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. I am also working towards a Spanish minor.
Throughout the past four years, I have learned many different aspects of becoming a Public Relations specialist. In my classes have I worked in groups to develop different types of campaigns for organizations around the San Luis Obispo area. I am also a member of the Cal Poly chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Currently, I am working on my senior project – a campaign which aims to change the way college students view, deal with, and communicate about depression, self-harm, and suicide.
As a Spanish minor, I studied abroad in Valladolid, Spain for three months. While in Spain I lived with a Spanish family and took classes in Spanish language, oral communication, and culture. Traveling throughout Spain was one of my favorite parts of my study abroad experience. I loved meeting new people, trying different types of food, and experiencing cultures. My whole study abroad experience was eye opening and has really helped to change the way I view the world around me. My time abroad helped me to become a more independent and outgoing person.
Last summer I was an intern at AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah in their Corporate Affairs department in Walnut Creek, CA. While there I had the opportunity to write press releases, help with corporate events, and begin the process of redesigning some of the traffic and public safety brochures. It was a wonderful first look into Corporate America.
